@frog I haven't been tempted by any phone for the last few years - but as a Linux user the Google o/s seems appealing, certainly more so than the iPhone which just makes me see cash registers (though quite likely isn't justified).

@jimmysparkle Not being a handset connoisseur I think that the Magic will suit my needs well enough and sate my desires long enough such that by the time my 18 month contract runs out the market will have matured with more models. I have to say though that the Samsung S8000 looks really sleek, very nice indeed in fact. Handsets seem to be coming out at a snail's pace - I was going to wait until the end of the year, but releases seem to keep getting pushed back so I may just take the plunge ... unless it turns out that Vodafone are rubbish out in the sticks of course. Thanks for the pointers :)

As an avid G1 user I can't recommend the android platform more, I could never go back :)

I'm just waiting for the hardware to catch up with software, I don't like the look of the htc magic, they've axed the keyboard and not proportionally reduced the thickness? When/If HTC release something similar to their win powered Touch Pro 2, I'd be interested.

Until then I'm waiting to see the Samsung's S8000, Nvidia's Tegra handsets & SE's offerings.

Never been tempted by the iphone? Guess there is a stigma attached to the iphone, unlike the Android. I do believe battery life of an Android is very poor, you may need to keep it on constant charge.
