According to Microsoft, this diagram illustrates perfectly positions of some of the typography terms in Word.

To the trained eye with someone with a degree in typography I very much doubt this illustration has any use other than confusing the hell out of you!
I had to look up the deinition of Pitch in typography when a client dropped it into a conversation, seems those that use Word or who work for Microsoft talk in a different language
Pitch: Refers to the amount of horizontal space used for each character of fixed-width fonts. This is often specified in characters-per-inch (CPI), typically where 10-pitch equals 12-point, 12-pitch equals 10-point, and 15-pitch equals 8-point.
There, much clearer?

“seems those that use Word or who work for Microsoft talk in a different language”
Is it really that unexpected? Microsoft invent new words and technologies every 30 seconds for things that exist and work better. The most obvious example is IE6/7 and the dreded “hasLayout”. Whats worse is that they spend years trying to force people to use it.
I don’t know if it has anything to do with thier egos or if the marketing department thinks that it will help thier brand to go against the flow. But it’s bloody annoying, it seems they are only just starting to get the idea that the world does not, in fact, revolve around them.
