Quick client overview: Caring for Cats is an award-winning, independent cat rescue and rehoming charity based in Market Weighton, near Hull.
A small charity in need of rescue
Earlier this year, after reading about how I helped a similar charity overcome their problems, Caring for Cats contacted me to see if I could help them. The charity had an out-of-date, “seen better days” website that was now no longer supported, lacked the controls the charity needed to update it and unfortunately had been very severe hacked.
Joomla to WordPress
Fast forwarding several months of planning, scoping and day-to-day communications, a new website was born. This website was completely bespoke, all the way through from the initial designs, handcrafted code and a custom WordPress theme. As security was a major concern, and with WordPress being seen as a potential security risk in itself, extensive work was carried out to lock down the website and protect it from future hacking attempts.
The website is fully responsive and looks great on desktop, tablet and mobile devices. The bespoke nature of the build allowed for lean code, optimised images and a vast array of custom coded functionality in the admin area. The site is now more visible online due to the onsite search engine optimisation work I completed, it’s now more automated with several key online forms created and you can even buy the charities calendar too, with a simple PayPal purchase.
This project was a labour of love, and one I thoroughly enjoyed. I take pride in taking on projects of this nature and both myself and the client are delighted by the end result.
